When the Biology Honors class kicked off a special course to learn more about neurological diseases, they turned it into a unified effort to educate their community and raise over $3,000 for ALS research.
The ALS Association spoke to some of the folks behind the project.
“Holidays can be difficult for a family living with ALS,” Jen Levasseur said. “Our first Christmas after diagnosis, you know, we were left wondering is this going to be our last Christmas? Will he be here next year? If he’s here next year, what is that going to look like?”

The ALS Association awarded $225,000 in scholarships to 45 inaugural recipients of the Jane Calmes ALS Scholarship Fund. The Fund provides financial support to students impacted by ALS.
The first cohort of Fund scholars will receive $2,500 each semester for a total of $5,000 per year in support of post-high school education. Awards are renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned or graduation is achieved.
I co-wrote this blog post for Noel Levasseur, a person with ALS. The article tells his courageous fight with ALS and how he is involved with the ALS “Challenge Me” Campaign. I contributed all ALS statistics and facts to the article.
I wrote this blog post with research from several sources - press release, website information and video footage from the ALS advocacy conference.
The article discusses ALS Association chapter advocates' efforts during the 2019 August Congressional recess, to setup in-district meetings with members of Congress who have not already cosponsored the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act and urging them to support this bill. The ALS Disability Insurance Access Act aims to eliminate a five-month waiting period for Social Security Disability Insurance.
I drafted the ALS Association Annual Report for Fiscal Year ending in January 2018. The report highlights corporate sponsorships, organizational leadership, and provides a FY18 Financial Summary, research activities, care services to ALS patients, fundraising and advocacy activities including the Ice Bucket Challenge and Walk to End ALS campaigns - mission-related fundraising activities that raise funds to advance treatments and help serve those with ALS, a chronic, fatal, neurological disease.
I line-edited grammer, spelling and word order for this legislative brochure distributed by the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Given to PTA members and advocates that attended the 2019 National PTA Legislative Conference, the brochure contains effective parent and family stakeholder engagement provisions in education and youth-related reauthorization bills. These priorities were presented to legislators at the PTA sponsored conference.
After participating in a tweet chat, sponsored by Experian, tweets on behalf of my client Consumer Federation of America were featured in Experian's slideshare document.
